Why should a teacher/future teacher have a web
presence? How could
this help you either get a job OR improve your chances? How do you use the web
to get better insight into businesses/people/places? How could/should a teacher
use a class website with his/her students?
A future teacher should have a web presence because it allows for many individuals to see information about them every easily. A potential school district would be able to go look into other works that may be posted or use it just to see how creative you can be and see how you use other resources that others may not. I think it is also beneficial for a teacher because the parents of her students could go there to find out any contact information and it could be used to post assignments or bulletins about what is going on in the class. I think this would be a good way of making sure the arenas feel involved with their child's education.
ReplyDeleteThis could help you get a job because it would show that you have an advanced technology ability and that is a positive quality to have now days. In an interview ou could also reference pervious works that you have done and it would be an easy way for them to find it.
I use a businesses website to find things such as hours, location, and information about the place, so I think this would be beneficial because it could be used to find your contact information in an easy to find place.
I also think a teacher could use this in a classroom setting as a way of integrating technology into their classroom. On a page you could post a forum which would allow for students to express their opinions in a way different for the normal sitting in a classroom and raising their hand. It would even allow for someone who is usually shy in class to get their opinion heard. I also think this is very important because with how technology has become the norm of communication this would allow the students to become more familiar with how to properly express themselves through words and respect others even behind a computer screen, where they are more likely to save whatever comes to their mind because hey have a sense of protection since they may not be communication face to face.
I also agree with putting assignments or bulletins on the website. A website would be a useful tool for the parents and students (depending on the age). I believe that teachers are expected to be more advanced in technology today than they were when we were in school.
DeleteIt is definitely an easier and more convenient way to get information. Having technological ability is a great ability one should have whether it is Microsoft Word, or SmartBoards. Having a class website is a great way to allow other to express their feelings through writing.
DeleteAfter reading yours, I think we had a lot of the same ideas. One point that I really liked that you touched on was the way you can use the website with your students. There are some ways in there to use the website that I had not thought of, so it was interesting to see your ideas!

ReplyDeleteA teacher should have a web presence because it allows others, parents and other teachers, to see who the teacher is. The teacher can put general information on the web and their teaching styles. The teacher can also include daily assignments for the parents to keep track of their student’s work. Taking pictures of the students doing assignments (blocking out the students’ faces) can allow others to see what the students are doing and learning. A web presence allows others to get involved and stay in contact with the teacher.

The teacher can send the web page before going into the interview so then the employer can see and have an idea on who they will be meeting.
I use the web to get better insight of people by seeing what everyone is doing and how they are doing. When I see pictures of the person I can see that they are doing well and are experiencing new things. I use the web to get better insight of businesses by seeing what is new to their business.
A teacher could use a class website with his/her students by posting a weekly agenda on the web. It will allow the students to see what is expected in the upcoming week. The students can also explore who their teacher is even before the first day of school. It will help the students to become more aware of who their teacher is.
I loved your idea of posting pictures of the children (of course with the right security taken) I know if I was a parent I would love to see things like that.

I really liked the idea that you said that parents can be involved. It is convenient if parents are able to go to the website and see the student's progress or nightly homework assignments.This could help students academically because the parents are aware of what is going on. Also, parent's don't have to worry about sipping through the folders to try and find papers that are to go home for communication purposes.

DeleteEveryone is on the web now. Even the younger kids are always on some time of Internet presence. A teacher should definitely have a web presence. I may be biased considering I think the Internet is very useful and I enjoy using it. Kids and their parents would be able to very easily connect with the teacher outside of the classroom if anything was needed of them. It would allow for simple communication, and easy access to information that could be needed by parents and it the kids in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteI believe that having a good Internet presence would most definitely improve your chances on getting a job. The world is ever increasing become more and more technologically advanced and if you are able to make your way around the Internet successfully and you are able to make it something useful in the classroom, your students will benefit by learning how to navigate through the web ( which I'm sure they will have to in future careers) and also learn about the subject you're teaching.
I use the web a ton to find out about different resources. I always search for ratings on products, consumer reviews, even how certain restaurants are rated. These might not have anything to do with teaching, but it will be used the same way as I am using it now when I am a teacher but about me. I will then be the one who is being rated or searched especially if parents are curious about what type of teacher I am.
As a teacher using the web in the classroom, you could post information instructions on how to do certain assignments, you could even have assignments on the web itself. The Internet is a massive resource and knows much more than anyone possibly could. So, inevitably the Internet will have some type of information that was not covered inside the classroom. If the teacher uses the web correctly, he or she could provide the way to find the information themselves that wasn't covered in class.
I agree that it would be beneficial for the parents if the teacher had a website. The world is always advancing in technology and teachers have to keep up. I agree that the Internet is a massive resource and I believe that it would be smart for teachers to have a website.
DeleteI do agree with you that everyone is on the web. It doesn't surprised me at all when one of my younger relatives has to teach me how to do something on the computer or hook something up. I literally go to the internet for EVERY THING!
DeleteIt is very crazy that kids are using the Internet these days. When I was at Bartley, 4th grade students all had their own school Chromebooks! They would do homework problems on their, and also write papers and upload to GoogleDocs so that teachers can see it and grade it. All classrooms will go to technology uses. Even the Ipads that were given to South Callaway students was a major change.

I think it's great that you pointed out the fact that if a teacher is good at navigating the web, it will help the students to improve on it also.

Also, because almost every application is electronic and people communicate through email, having a website will also make it easier for faculty to see and communicate information with the future teacher. Students may also go to their teacher's website if classes, homework assignments, etc are posted to a "clipboard".
ReplyDeleteHaving a website could help me get a job because again it shows all my information layed out so that faculty at least have an idea of who I am, what I am qualified for, and to put a face with the name.
I use the web all the time to get insights to all kinds of information. Whether I am looking up a person for a history assignment, or looking up places to travel, etc, I use it all the time. I think this world has transitioned to all technology. People are on some type of technological advices 24/7 of their day.
A teacher should use the web for their students as if it was a daily clipboard. Whether assignments are uploaded, printed off, or blogs, students will be able to get insights as to what assignments or announcements are due. Due dates may also be posted as well as calendars. I think having a teaching website is another resource for students to use and go back to for other help.
I think that it would be very good to have a web presence for interviewing. Everything that is needed to be said is all in one place!
DeleteIt's crazy how much we use the web in classes and really to research anything we need. I know when anyone asks a question that no one knows, someone just says "Oh, just Google it!" I feel that's the go to thing, but it's very helpful!
DeleteI do agree that it would be really nice to have all information displayed in one place. Everything is so electronic now it would probably be looked at as weird if a person brought a binder that had everything posted on the website in it to an interview.

It would also be good because it shows I am able to use the internet easily and that I am very accustomed to it.
Using the web to get better insight into businesses/people/places is one of the most helpful things. It can help you research about how the company works and other people's opinions on it. The web can give you different resources on a lot of different subjects and can really help with anything you need to research.
I 100% believe that a teacher should use a class website. All of my teachers in high school had a website, and I was easily able to access all of my assignments and check my grades as they were uploaded. I always knew when things were due and how to do them because the website had it all laid out and easy to understand. I think this is how teachers should use a website for their students.
It is a very nice way to give someone a "one up" in an interview. I think thats so interesting all of your teachers had websites in high school. None of mine did, but it would have been so useful.
DeleteIt is very easy to find what you're looking for on the Internet. It would be very beneficial for the students and parents if the teacher did have a website. It would help the parents keep track if their child was doing their assignments.
